Located in the Peter J. Gomes chapel, the organ has been around for 100 years and is a monumental part of Bates College history and everyday life. It holds great symbolic, economic, and spiritual value to the institution. Here we ananlyze this magnificent instrument through a material culture lens. We examine the object's historical, critical, and evocative significance in three distinct essays.
