Evocative Narrative
In terms of narrative, it is important to pay attention to the evocative narrative as well as the historical narrative. On August 5, 1991, Audrey and Bill Norris were responsible for the impetus of memorizaling Sampsonville and sent out letters to 91 individuals who either knew Charles Sampson or lived in Sampsonville. In these letters, they requested personal stories, letters, and documentation about Charles Sampson in the efforts to collect and provide a more detailed narrative on the impact he had as a Professor at Bates. This was the first real effort to memorialize Charles Sampson and Sampsonville. The Norris' effort should be noted because it was around 40 years after Sampson's passing, and took another 7 years to complete the project.
