September 1991 letter from Polly Tooker

In the September 22, 1991 letter written by Polly Tooker, she writes about Charles Sampson specifically. She states that "the name 'Sampsonville' was inevitable, for the administrator of our motley enclave was Charlie Sampson, a soft-spoken, mild-mannered, avuncular man perfectly cast in his role" (Letter from Polly Tooker). According to Tooker, Sampson was an extremely important part of so many individuals' experiences at Bates College. He was more than just an educator; he was like family. She therefore speaks of him fondly and admiringly.
